Coach K has a huge crush on Beyonce, told a great story about meeting her

Coach K has the image of a tight ass who runs a pretty strict program. The man is 66 and, while he can still recruit the top players in the country, he represents more of the old guard of college basketball. But one story he told over the weekend is about to change your entire perception of him.

According to the description of a video uploaded to YouTube, Coach K spoke at the Duke annual basketball campout over the weekend, which is an event where students camp out to get tickets for the upcoming basketball season. Coach K decided to tell the students about his time at the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year dinner last year where he introduced LeBron James, who received the honor.

The audio in the video is of poor quality, and the entire story isn’t shared, so we’ll relate what the YouTube uploader says.

Apparently Coach K was sitting at the dinner and couldn’t believe that two seats remained open. He was wondering who could possibly be late to an event like this, and sure enough Jay-Z and Beyonce walked in.

Jay-Z apparently introduced himself to Krzyzewski as “Jay,” leaving Coach K wanting to respond that he was “K.” That line got a lot of laughs, but Krzyzewski says he was too embarrassed to say the line to the rap mogul.

And that’s when Coach K revealed that he has a massive, massive crush on Beyonce and shares the story. Full transcription of his words is below, courtesy of Eye on College Basketball:

“So anyway I go up on stage and do 10 minutes and say really great things about LeBron, Jay and of course Beyonce. The event’s over, and this is where my street cred was bouncing all over the world. I’m asked to come up on stage and take a picture with LeBron and Jay-Z. So it’s LeBron, Jay, and K. It’s on Twitter, Instagram, I don’t know, was Vine going then? It’s on all that crap. I mean in Hong Kong, Beijing, Moscow. My s— is going all over the place. I am the coolest 65-year-old [inaudible].

“However, however, what I want has not happened yet. I want to meet Beyonce. So I go up to Beyonce. You know how guys think they have a lot of good lines? And, so I go up and I’m nervous as I can be. I’m like a teenager. And I go to her with a great line. I say, ‘Hi, I’m Coach K.’ And she said, ‘Coach, I know who you are. I just listened to you for 10 minutes.’ Like, patting me on the head. Little boy. So now I feel like I’m 11. So what’s my next line? I come up and I say, ‘You’re my favorite.’ My face is red as can be, you know, I’m like 4 feet tall right now. And she says, ‘Well, that’s nice.’ And I asked her — and I don’t usually do this — but I said, ‘Would you take a picture with me?’ So she takes a picture with me and I look, really, like I’m 12. But my street cred, as big as the other one was, goes everywhere. So, tonight, it’s not like being with Beyonce — it’s as good as being with Jay-Z.”

I swear to you, I will never look at Coach K the same way again. From now on, whenever I see him, I will think of his huge crush on Beyonce and this fantastic story.
