David Collins issues apology over hard foul against Duke

David Collins runs into Wendell Moore

Clemson guard David Collins was ejected from Thursday night’s game against Duke for committing a very hard foul, and he apologized for the play both before and after he left the court.

Collins had the ball stolen from him by Wendall Moore late in the first half of Duke’s 82-64 win over the Tigers. As Moore was going in for the layup, Collins ran by and rammed into Moore, sending the Blue Devils forward to the ground. He admitted on Instagram after the game that it was a “reckless play” but insisted he was simply running too fast and could not stop.

Collins quickly tried to take responsibility for the play. He spoke with Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski prior to leaving the court. Still, his explanation that he tried to stop seems hard to believe. It certainly looked like he ran full-speed into Moore. You can see the video of the play here.

Collins, a senior, is averaging 10.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this season.
