Georgetown is having one of its worst seasons in program history this year, but the terrible results are not going to cost head coach Patrick Ewing his job.
Georgetown announced in a statement on Wednesday that Ewing will return as the team’s coach for the 2022-23 season. The Hoyas say they are committed to Ewing and will work with him to make the necessary changes to get the program back on a winning path.

Ewing, a Basketball Hall of Famer who dominated at Georgetown during his playing days, is in his fifth season as the head coach at his alma mater. He is 68-81 overall and just 26-61 in Big East play. The Hoyas are 0-17 against Big East opponents this season.
Georgetown went on a Cinderella run through the Big East tournament last year to reach the NCAA Tournament, so perhaps that helped save Ewing’s job. It also helps that he is such an icon at the school, but those good vibes will run out eventually. Ewing probably won’t survive another season as bad as the one the Hoyas are having this year.
