LSU elects not to participate in postseason
LSU wasn’t expected to be part of the field of 68 team’s in this year’s NCAA Tournament. When it was confirmed they wouldn’t be, an announcement followed declaring their season over.
The Tigers could have been an option for the NIT, which would have given America another opportunity to see super talented freshman Ben Simmons. However, head coach Johnny Jones said there will be no postseason play for LSU this year.
“We will be able to utilize this time to get better and start preparations for next season,” Jones said in statement. “We fell short of the mark of getting to the NCAA Tournament. I take full responsibility for this team, and will do the things necessary to make sure we are able to reach one of our main goals at LSU in the future.”
LSU finishes the season 19-14 and 11-7 in conference play. Simmons, a projected top five pick in June’s NBA Draft, averaged 19.2 points and 11.8 rebounds. He also led the team in assists (158), steals (65), and blocked shots (27).
