Mike Brey hurt himself coaching during Notre Dame victory

March Madness isn’t just tough on the players. It’s tough on coaches, too.

Just ask Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey, who hurt his calf while coaching his team to the Elite Eight on Friday night.

According to ESPN, Brey required treatment and was wearing an ice wrap postgame. He said that he noticed the injury about five minutes into the second half after jumping in excitement, and originally feared that he tore his Achilles.

“The whole second half, I’m limping around,” Brey told reporters after the game. “I played hurt. I played hurt.”

Brey told ESPN’s Andy Katz that he’ll be good to go for the team’s game Sunday against top-seeded North Carolina.

March is a tough month for college basketball coaches. Emotions run high. Sometimes they hurt their calves coaching. Others break their hands punching white boards in frustration. Others tear up their knees celebrating. Mercifully, Brey’s injury doesn’t seem too serious.
