North Carolina spoils Coach K’s final game at Cameron Indoor Stadium
Saturday marked a big day for Mike Krzyzewski, but the North Carolina Tar Heels did not seem to care.
North Carolina beat Duke 94-81 at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday, spoiling Coach K’s sendoff.
This was Coach K’s final home game as Duke’s head coach since he will be retiring after the season. Tickets for the game were going for thousands, and numerous former Duke players showed up to attend the game and support Coach K.
Despite all the hoopla, the Tar Heels were not deterred.
Duke led by two at the half and by five with 10:36 minutes left. But then UNC went on a 7-0 run to take the lead and they didn’t look back. They never relinquished the lead, and then they went 8-for-8 on their free throws over the final minute to solidify a big 13-point win.
UNC coach Hubert Davis spoke after the game about the intensity of the atmosphere and joked it felt like he had just played a whole game.
"I feel like I played 40 minutes," Hubert Davis says as he sits down.
