Sister Jean thinks God is a basketball fan, prefers NCAA over NBA

Sister Jean believes God enjoys a good basketball game as much as the rest of us, but the 98-year-old Loyola Chicago team chaplain believes the man upstairs has a preference when it comes to collegiate athletics vs. professional.

Meeting with reporters on Friday ahead of Loyola Chicago’s Final Four game against Michigan, Sister Jean was asked if she believes God is a fan of hoops. Here response was classic.

“He’s probably a basketball fan, more of the NCAA than the NBA,” she said. “I’ll wager that your viewing audience is very large this time (of year), and if you compare it to the NBA it’ll be different. I say that because these young people are playing with their hearts, and not for any financial assistance.”

Well, most of these young people are getting a free education, but there’s no need to spoil another great Sister Jean moment by getting into the pay-for-play debate.

Sister Jean is easily one of the coolest 98-year-olds to ever live, and we have seen countless examples of that throughout March Madness. With her on the team’s side, you can understand how Loyola Chicago has been able to shock the world in the tournament.
