The Villanova community is picking an interesting way to ride out their championship high.
On Tuesday, a day after the Wildcats won their second national title in three years with a 79-62 victory over Michigan, a petition surfaced on Change.org seeking to honor star Villanova junior Mikal Bridges. The petition, which appeared to be started by students of the university, called for a recently-built on-campus bridge over Lancaster Ave. as well as a conjoining SEPTA bridge over the Norristown High Speed Line to be named “The Mikal Bridges.”
“Bridges’s defensive versatility, shooting ability and wingspan have been an integral part of this Villanova team and we believe he deserves this honor,” wrote Nathan Brown, the user who began the petition.

In less than five hours, the petition had already gained 250 signatures.
As for Bridges himself, he just wrapped up an impressive junior campaign, averaging 17.7 points a game and playing himself into the lottery discussion for the 2018 NBA Draft. The 21-year-old was also on Villanova’s 2015-16 title team and scored 19 points on Michigan to help clinch championship No. 2.
The architectural nod does seem like a longshot, but at least this already constitutes a better post-title run than one of Bridges’ teammates is having.
