Wisconsin guard Kamari McGee was ejected from the Badgers’ game against the Purdue Boilermakers at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Saturday after a controversial call.

McGee was defending Braden Smith, who was trying to come around a screen. McGee fought through the screen but ran right into Trey Kaufman-Renn as he did so. Kaufman-Renn was initially called for a foul, but the officials reviewed the play and made a change.

McGee was called for a Flagrant 2 foul and ejected from the game.

Max Klesmit replaced McGee in the game. Kaufman-Renn was given two free throws and made both of them to extend Purdue’s lead to 29-22. The Badgers still won the game 94-84 as McGee had four points prior to his ejection.

Fans could not believe the call and did not understand why McGee had been ejected.

Big Ten Refs continue to hold the Conference back

I’m a Purdue fan and that wasn’t even a flagrant 1. Terrible terrible call

— Coach Dawg (@Tdawgkunkle) February 15, 2025

Everyone knows that wasn’t a flagrant 2. Refs need to be better. Officiating has been such a huge focus this year and it’s really disappointing how they continue to ruin games. -from a Purdue fan.

Awful. Big 10 refs just as bad as SEC refs.

Did that seem like intentional contact from McGee? Or did it seem incidental to you?

McGee is a reserve for the Badgers and is averaging 7.2 points per game. His absence did not hurt Wisconsin, but the call certainly was questionable.
