AJ McCarron’s girlfriend Katherine Webb and mom Dee Dee Bonner together for last time
AJ McCarron and his family have achieved royalty status in Alabama. That sort of happens when you are the star quarterback for the Crimson Tide — you become a legend at the school, and you are an icon in the state for the rest of your life. But with McCarron, it’s not just him who has become extremely popular.
At each of McCarron’s games, his mother, Dee Dee Bonner, and girlfriend, Katherine Webb, are usually in attendance. The two are frequently shown together on TV, and they share pictures on social media of their time at the games. Both Bonner and Webb expressed disappointment on Thursday that the Sugar Bowl would be their last time together at an Alabama game where AJ was the quarterback:

In many ways, their tweets signify the end of what’s been a great era at Alabama.
AJ has been at Bama since 2009 (he redshirted his freshman year) and he has been a three-year starter. It’s not often that a major program has the same quarterback start for them for three years. For one, it’s not often that an underclassman is good enough to win the starting job at a big-time school, though that has become more common lately. And usually the players who are good enough to win a starting job early in their career are also good enough for the NFL, so they end up leaving school early for the pros. McCarron has been at Bama for five years and started for three. The Crimson Tide haven’t had to worry about the quarterback position for years, and they’re going to have a change after he is gone.
Because the rest of the team is so good, McCarron doesn’t often get the individual recognition that other players on the team do. But McCarron has thrown for 75 touchdowns and only 13 interceptions in his four seasons at Bama. It doesn’t get much more stable at the quarterback position.
It’s been a familiar site seeing AJ quarterback Bama for the past few years, and we’ve gotten used to his mom and girlfriend being there to support him. In a way, it will be sad that this is the last time we will see all three in this situation.
