Texas quarterback Arch Manning has addressed his controversial comments about an AI-generated video depicting coach Steve Sarkisian slapping ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe.
One day after admitting he found the video “hilarious,” Manning posted an apology on social media for his comments. He specifically apologized to Rowe for “what she has personally had to deal with” due to his remarks.
“In my press conference yesterday, I made an insensitive comment about an AI video. There is nothing funny about it,” Manning wrote. “It’s easy to say I didn’t mean it, but I know my words and actions were hurtful to a lot of people. I do not take that lightly and am deeply sorry for that.
“I specifically want to apologize to Holly Rowe for what she has personally had to deal with because of my comments. I have a ton of respect for her and appreciate her showing me grace in this moment. I need to do better and will be more thoughtful going forward.”

Manning had initially said he found the video funny (video here), which drew criticism given the nature of it. The situation was already somewhat controversial because of how Sarkisian actually handled Rowe’s attempt at interviewing him after the Longhorns’ 24-23 win.
