Auburn beats Georgia on miracle Hail Mary (Video)
Auburn blew a huge fourth-quarter lead against Georgia on Saturday before connecting on a miracle Hail Mary with 25 seconds left to give them a win over the visiting Bulldogs and a shot at the SEC West title.
The Tigers were up 37-17 early in the fourth quarter, but they allowed three straight touchdowns to the Bulldogs, who took a 38-37 lead with 1:49 left. Just when Auburn looked like they were going to be defeated in comeback fashion, Nick Marshall connected with Ricardo Louis on a 73-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass to vault them to victory.
That Hail Mary pass wasn’t even a good one, either. It went right to two Georgia defenders, but Josh Harvey-Clemsons and Tray Matthews collided, allowing the ball to go up in the air, where Louis hauled it in for the score.
On the ensuing possession, Georgia actually drove to the Auburn 20, but they were unable to score to take the lead, giving Auburn an improbable 43-38 win.
“I’m going to enjoy this. I’m going to church in the morning and then I’ll flip the switch,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said after the win, per Justin Hokanson of Auburn Rivals.
“This is definitely a Waffle House night,” he added, per Hokanson.
Auburn is now 10-1 after the miracle and can win the SEC West if it beats rival Alabama in the Iron Bowl in two weeks.
You have to listen to Auburn’s radio call of the amazing finish. This is awesome:
A miracle in Jordan-Hare! A miracle in Jordan-Hare!
