It is a safe bet that Bill Belichick did not choose the backdrop for his first North Carolina postgame press conference.
The embarrassment Belichick had to endure on the field Monday in his collegiate coaching debut apparently wasn’t bad enough. The Tar Heels were pulverized by TCU 48-14 in a contest that had fans talking more about Belichick’s age gap with Jordon Hudson rather than the actual game.
At his postgame press conference, Belichick maintained that his North Carolina squad was much better than the stat sheet showed. But it was hard to take him all that seriously, given that he was spouting football platitudes underneath a blue-and-white balloon arch.

TCU entered Tuesday’s game favored to win on the road at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. But the PR staff and horde of celebrities in attendance probably expected the contest to at least be close.
Belichick had North Carolina looking like a well-oiled machine on the team’s opening drive that put the Tar Heels up 7-0. But UNC’s defense was an utter disaster, allowing the Horned Frogs to put up 542 total yards of offense in the 34-point blowout.
