5-star QB Bryce Young switches commitment from USC to Alabama

Five-star quarterback recruit Bryce Young has made a significant switch in his recruitment.

Young announced on Sunday that he has committed to Alabama. The Southern California native previously was committed to USC.

Young plays for Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif., which is a traditional feeder to USC. Quarterbacks Matt Leinart, Matt Barkley, Todd Marinovich, and current Trojan JT Daniels all went there.

Young committed to USC prior to the start of his junior season last year, however, things have changed with the Trojans. Daniels suffered a season-ending knee injury in the team’s first game and will likely take a redshirt year, which will leave him with three more years of eligibility. Plus, true freshman Kedon Slovis looks good and will also have three years of eligibility. There was too much of a log jam at USC.

“For me, I just felt like this was the best thing for me. It definitely wasn’t an overnight decision. Me and my family have been praying about this for a long time and I really feel strongly that Alabama is where God wants me and I’m excited about all the opportunities I’ll have there,” Young told 247 Sports.

Young is ranked by 247 as the No. 4 recruit in the country and No. 1 dual-threat quarterback. He is set to join the Tide next year.
