Carl Pelini accused by FAU assistant of using cocaine, marijuana

Carl PeliniCarl Pelini resigned as head coach at Florida Atlanta University on Monday amid allegations of drug use.

The initial reports were that Pelini used marijuana at a social event in October. SB Nation obtained documents that show a Matt Edwards and Allison Stewart stated in affidavits that they observed Pelini using drugs.

Matt Edwards is the name of FAU’s defensive line and special teams coach. He stated in his affidavit that he personally observed Pelini smoking weed on Oct. 19 in Key West. He also said he personally saw Pelini and defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis using marijuana and cocaine in the last 12 months. Rekstis resigned on Monday along with Pelini.

In her affidavit, Stewart said she saw Pelini smoking on Oct. 19. She also stated that Pelini admitted over text message that he uses drugs on occasion.

Pelini went 5-15 in nearly two seasons as head coach of the Owls after taking over for Howard Schnellenberger.
