Dwayne Haskins officially enters camp as Ohio State starting quarterback

Dwayne Haskins will be Ohio State’s starting quarterback when the team’s preseason camp gets underway.

Last month, Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer provided some clarity on the team’s quarterback situation, saying Haskins would get the first opportunity to be the starter. On Friday, Meyer officially confirmed that Haskins will open as the team’s starter, according to ESPN.

Haskins, who will compete with Tate Martell, played in eight games last season for Ohio State. His most extensive action came against UNLV, when he completed 15-of-23 passes for 228 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He also came in during the team’s rivalry game against Michigan, going 6-for-7 for 94 yards and helping to secure a 31-20 win during a tight game.

Haskins’ presence and the crowd at quarterback led Joe Burrow to leave the program. He transferred to LSU, where he believes he will have a better shot at starting.
