Florida recruit thought mom walking out of announcement was ‘hilarious’
Florida commit Jacob Copeland went viral for disappointing his mother on National Signing Day when he chose the Gators over two other top SEC programs, but the four-star wide receiver insists it was all in good fun.
Copeland, one of the top wide receiver recruits in the country, had narrowed his decision down to Alabama, Tennessee and Florida. His mother sat next to him wearing a Crimson Tide sweatshirt and a Vols hat before he announced his choice, and Copeland proudly put on a Gators hat. Mom then walked off the set disgusted, but Copeland later said that was just part of her “hilarious” personality.
What my mama did today was hilarious if you knew her personally that’s her job. PUT ON A SHOW!

Most of the clips that circulated around Twitter and Instagram cut out the part where Copeland’s mother returned to give her son a big hug.

Players often have to make difficult choices when choosing schools, and there are bound to be people in their inner circle who are disappointed. We saw the same thing happen twice before with the same mom, but Copeland’s mother clearly didn’t take long to get over it.
