Hue Jackson says it’s ‘way too early’ to comment on Josh Rosen

Josh Rosen

The Cleveland Browns will be in a position to make a choice between Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold if both players decide to turn pro, but one of the star quarterbacks would rather not be the top overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. How does that make Hue Jackson feel?

When asked on Wednesday about a report indicating Rosen may chose to return to UCLA for his senior season if the Browns are planning to draft him, Jackson refused to take the bait.

“I just think it’s too early to comment on something that a college player has said who has not even declared what he’s doing,” Jackson said, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “I don’t think right now that conversation is what’s important. Sure, that’ll be talked about as we move forward and at the appropriate time when we can discuss that, we will. Right now, it’s way too early. We are focused on how do we beat Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh this week.”

Rosen has all but confirmed that he would rather not end up in Cleveland, but a lot can change in a few months. Chip Kelly is now the head coach at UCLA, and Rosen doesn’t seem like the type of QB who would fit Kelly’s system. Returning for his senior season may not be the best career choice.

If Jackson and the Browns do care about a player they draft wanting to be there, Darnold may be the better choice. Some comments the USC star made this week indicate he would have no problem playing in Cleveland.
