Jameis Winston does not wear contact lenses when playing, was squinting

Jameis Winston is a fantastic quarterback despite not having his best vision when he plays football.

When Florida State played Miami on Saturday in Tallahassee, one of the side-stories the ABC announcers kept mentioning was how Winston does not wear his contact lenses when he plays. Winston apparently wears contacts the rest of the time but does not like to wear them when he plays.

Throughout the game, Winston could be seen struggling to read the play calls from his coaches on the sidelines. He was shown repeatedly squinting.

If he struggles to see play calls on the sidelines, you have to wonder how sharp his vision is making reads down the field.

As someone who had poor vision before getting LASIK surgery, I can tell you my vision always got drastically worse at night, so I imagine that must be the case with Winston. If he doesn’t like wearing contacts when he plays, maybe he should consider getting surgery or — gasp! — bringing back the Eric Dickerson goggles!

If Winston does get contacts for games, he would be following the lead of a Boston Red Sox player who did and then had success in the World Series.
