Thursday night’s Taxslayer Gator Bowl did not go great for Jarrett Guarantano.
The Tennessee Volunteers quarterback was benched in the third quarter after throwing a pick-six. Guarantano was 11/20 for 130 yards and two interceptions to that point in the game, and his team was trailing 16-6.
For their next possession, the Vols went with freshman quarterback Brian Maurer, who had seen limited action in seven games. Maurer led the Vols on a field goal drive but did not look good as a passer.
After allowing a field goal to make it 19-9, Tennessee went back to Guarantano for the ensuring drive as they looked to come back from down 10 points. They ended up punting on the possession.
Guarantano, a junior, entered the game with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions on the season.
