Former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels has made another ridiculous demand of his alma mater in response to the school issuing his jersey number to a new player.
Daniels’ camp has demanded that LSU return its copy of Daniels’ 2023 Heisman Trophy, according to Matt Moscona of LouisianaSports.net. LSU has no intention of doing so, and coach Lane Kiffin has personally spoken with Daniels over the situation.

Daniels is apparently upset that the Tigers issued his No. 5 to sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett. Pickett is the first LSU player to wear the number since Daniels went pro, though the Tigers never formally retired the number in Daniels’ honor.
Thus far, Daniels has demanded that LSU stop using his name, image, and likeness in response to the school’s perceived disrespect. Involving his Heisman certainly qualifies as an escalation, though he may just see it as part of the demands he already made.
Whatever Daniels is trying to do, it is just making him look petty in the eyes of fans. Perhaps he considers that to be a worthwhile tradeoff, but this affair will almost certainly do more harm than good to his public image.
