The Texas Tech Red Raiders benefited from the rare reverse announcer jinx on Saturday thanks to FOX’s Joel Klatt.
The Red Raiders opted to have kicker Stone Harrington attempt a 58-yard field goal with 54 seconds left in the first half of their game against the Utah Utes at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Ut. on Saturday. Klatt had little faith that Harrington could make the kick, and the FOX analyst even suggested that Utah should be prepared for a possible return due to the likelihood of Harrington missing short.
“I don’t think he’s got the leg,” Klatt said. “Utah should have somebody back under the goalposts. There’s a good likelihood that this is short.”
The kick was not short. Harrington converted, prompting Gus Johnson to exclaim “take that, Joel Klatt!”

To his credit, Klatt was full of praise for Harrington after he made the kick, which put Texas Tech ahead 10-0.
The famed announcer jinx is a tale as old as time, and the people who call games are well aware of it. In this instance, Klatt was offering up some legitimate analysis. It was reasonable analysis as well, as Harrington’s longest field goal of the season was from just 47 yards out.
