Ex-Texas WR drawing huge transfer interest from top schools
Former Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook is drawing heavy transfer interest less than a day after leaving the Longhorns program.
Cook, a former five-star recruit from the 2023 class, abruptly left the program on Thursday and plans to enter the transfer portal. According to Adam Gorney of Rivals, Oregon, Georgia, and Ole Miss quickly reached out to contact Cook.

Cook was regarded as a top-30 recruit in 2023, and picked the Longhorns with a great deal of fanfare. However, he has not been a big part of the offense this year, with just eight catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns in his sophomore season. He has not even made a catch in a game since Sept. 28 against Mississippi State.
Cook was at least somewhat swayed to Texas by Arch Manning’s decision to go there. Manning still isn’t playing either, but is content to wait for his chance. Cook, it appears, is not.
