Even Kansas coach left dumbfounded by team’s blowout win
David Beaty’s job looked like it would be on the line following a loss to FCS opponent Nicholls State in the Kansas Jayhawks’ opener. Since then, they’ve defeated two FBS opponents in a row, including a 55-14 walloping of Rutgers on Saturday.
The lopsided win caught many off-guard, including Beaty. He was asked about the dominance during his postgame interview with FOX Sports Kansas City and was left dumbfounded.
“366 yards on the ground and you guys dominate time of possession. What’s going on at KU these days, coach?” Beaty was asked.
Beaty shook his head in disbelief, paused for a second, and then responded.
“I don’t really know, to be honest with you. I tell you what, I do. Our coaches do a terrific job. We’ve got an offensive line that’s starting to learn to play together. We’ve got a little bit of depth there, which is good. We’ve got three really, really good backs. We’ve got some depth, some guys made some plays, and I thought our quarterbacks did a good job and managed the game,” he said.

Even a statement from the school’s athletic director indicated that Beaty’s job was in jeopardy after the team’s first loss. These last two wins in a row will go a long way towards quelling the complaints about the program.
