Kirby Smart expected to receive big contract, raise from Georgia
The University of Georgia football team took a huge step forward last season, and head coach Kirby Smart may be getting a big contract and raise as a result.
Georgia has increased the pay of Smart’s staff members, but the head coach himself hasn’t received a big raise yet. That could change this week.
Georgia announced Wednesday that the executive committee of the athletic board will meet on Thursday “to discuss and deliberate upon the employment terms and compensation of a public employee.”
UGA has announced a meeting of the executive committee of the athletic board tomorrow afternoon "to discuss and deliberate upon the employment terms and compensation of a public employee."
I think we can all make an educated guess on which employee.

Football Scoop and others believe that employee is Smart. Football Scoop also figures that based on the market, Smart’s extension will likely be in the 7-year, $50 million range.
Smart, 42, played at Georgia and then became an assistant at Alabama in 2007, where he worked until 2015. After going 8-5 in his first season, Smart led the Bulldogs to a 13-2 season last year, including an appearance in the national championship game. We had him listed as one of our coaches who outperformed his salary last season. Now that’s about to change.
