LSU fans raise money to fly planes with pro-Devin White banner

Devin White targeting

LSU fans are ready to put their money where their mouths are in support of Devin White.

Fans are protesting the LSU linebacker’s suspension over a controversial targeting call against Mississippi State. That suspension will force him to miss the first half of the Tigers’ Nov. 3 game against Alabama, and has not sat well with LSU fans, who raised money to display #FreeDevinWhite billboards during the week.

This week, LSU fans are upping the ante by setting up a GoFundMe to raise money to fly a plane over Jacksonville, Florida, where ESPN’s College GameDay will be broadcasting ahead of Florida-Georgia on Saturday, carrying a #FreeDevinWhite banner. A second flight will take place in Baton Rouge during the LSU-Alabama game a week later.

As of Friday evening, the GoFundMe had raised over $4,000, surpassing the required amount to pay for both flights. The excess funds will be donated to charity.

These efforts won’t do anything to get White’s suspension overturned, as it’s already been made clear that it’s not happening. It’s not bad as far as publicity stunts go, though.
