LSU earns top seed in College Football Playoff over Ohio State

Joe Burrow

LSU was dominant in its win over Georgia to capture the SEC championship on Saturday, and that performance was enough to convince the College Football Playoff committee to give them the top spot in the CFB Playoff over Ohio State.

The four playoff teams were revealed on Sunday, and LSU was named No. 1. Ohio State has the 2-seed and Clemson and Oklahoma are No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. There was a lot of debate over whether LSU or Ohio State deserved the top spot, and Saturday’s conference championship games likely played a role in how the teams were seeded.

Joe Burrow and the Tigers cruised to an easy win over a Georgia team that was ranked No. 4 and a part of the College Football Playoff picture as of Saturday. Ohio State, on the other hand, needed a comeback to pull off a 34-21 win over No. 8 Wisconsin following a very slow start.

Many people feel you could have flipped a coin to choose between LSU and Ohio State, and that is probably fair to say. Both teams have played incredibly well all season and had similar strengths of schedule, though LSU’s huge road win over Alabama (when Tua Tagovailoa was still healthy) probably tipped the scale for some members of the committee.

As we broke down for you in greater detail on Saturday, we believe the committee got it right. That isn’t a knock on Ohio State, but LSU’s body of work was just slightly more impressive.
