LSU linebacker Whit Weeks was furious after being ejected from Saturday night’s clash with the Florida Gators at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.

Florida had the ball early in the first quarter for their first possession of the game. Quarterback DJ Lagway completed a pass to Vernell Brown III who gained six yards. Brown was tackled by Weeks and a few other LSU players, but Weeks was determined to have committed targeting and was ejected.

Weeks lowered his head and hit Brown with the crown of his helmet, triggering the ejection.

Targeting or no?

Weeks was later shown pacing up and down LSU’s sidelines, furious over his ejection.

Weeks is a junior linebacker who entered the game with five tackles including a half-sack on the season.

Weeks is one of the team leaders for LSU and coming off a big injury.

Fans were not pleased with the call on Weeks, and were more upset with the rule than the application of it on Saturday night.

To eject an impact player like Whit Weeks out the game for a sound tackle is exactly why the targeting penalty seriously needs to change. #LSU

Whit Weeks being ejected there is ridiculous. Targeting shouldn’t kick you out of the game, and how is he supposed to avoid that when the WR drops his helmet into him? Ridiculous #LSUvsFL

Florida ended up kicking a field goal on the drive. The only good thing for Weeks is that since he was ejected in the first half, he won’t have to serve a suspension in LSU’s next game.
