Former Nebraska coach Scott Frost alienated some fans recently when discussing the job he did at the school, but he has a defender in his successor.

Frost made headlines when he said he regretted taking the Nebraska job, and that it was the “wrong job” for him to take. Matt Rhule was asked about those comments on Tuesday, and he indicated that Frost was not necessarily wrong.

“I have a ton of respect for Scott, and I’ve always been very empathetic for what he went through because this was his home,” Rhule said. “If you guys fired me tomorrow, I’m just going to go back to Cape May and sit on the beach, go back to where I’m from. But this was his home.

“I know what it felt like to get run out of Carolina. I would say to people, I don’t think I took the right job for me. It wasn’t the right fit. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad job. I will say this: this wasn’t a good job when I got here.”

Matt Rhule gives a 4-minute answer on Scott Frost's comments regarding the Nebraska coaching job. Fascinating stuff.

Frost left UCF for Nebraska, his alma mater, in 2018. He was unable to turn the program around and was fired after going 16-31 in four-plus seasons. Obviously, that was not what Frost was after when he returned to Lincoln, but Cornhusker fans also didn’t want to hear him say the job was a bad one.

Frost has made a lot of comments since returning to UCF about how the Nebraska job worked out badly for him. At this point, it’s probably best for everyone to move on.
