The University of Michigan has decided on its next head football coach.

Michigan is hiring Sherrone Moore to serve as their next head coach. The 37-year-old Moore has been a coach on Michigan’s staff since 2018. He ascended from tight ends coach to co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach. Moore also received game experience as a head coach for the national champion Wolverines last season.

Moore was one of three coaches who filled in for Jim Harbaugh to start the season while Harbaugh served a school-imposed 3-game suspension. Moore coached the team to a win over Bowling Green in that game.

Then when the Big Ten suspended Harbaugh later in the season, Moore served as the acting head coach for 3-0 and won all three games, including wins over rival Ohio State and at Penn State. Overall, Moore went 4-0 in the four games for which he served as acting head coach.

Moore is receiving a 5-year deal from Michigan starting at $5.5 million.

The promotion of Moore to head coach will give Michigan some continuity moving forward. Having Moore remain with the program could prove to be especially helpful in mitigating potential player exits via the transfer portal over the next month.
