Nick Saban thinks Arkansas can be a ‘trap game’

Nick Saban

Nick Saban knows that he has a good team this season, and he’s doing everything he can to keep his players from recognizing that and believing their own hype. That seems to be why he went out of his way this week to call the Crimson Tide’s upcoming game against Arkansas on Saturday a “trap game.”

Saban spoke with the media on Monday and emphasized that he doesn’t want his Alabama squad to overlook the Razorbacks.

“This is what I call a little bit of a trap game for us, in terms of all the folks out there look at who they’ve played and what the scores were and don’t get prepared the way you need to get prepared to go play to your standard and the level you have to play to beat any team in the SEC on the road,” Saban said Monday, via 247 Sports.

Saban went on to praise Arkansas for being improved both defensively and offensively, and noted how close they made their game with Texas A&M last weekend (they lost 24-17).

Few expect the 1-4 Hogs to give Alabama a real challenge, but Saban is doing his best to make sure his players don’t think they can just walk into Fayetteville and automatically win. They will need to show up and be focused in order to avoid slacking against a lesser opponent. At least Saban spared us a “rat poison” mention this time.
