Nick Saban wife Terry wanted Jake Coker as starting QB

Nick Saban wife Terry

Nick Saban is regarded as one of the smartest and best coaches in college football history. But did you know that his wife Terry is one of the key ingredients to his success?

Terry Saban, known fondly as “Miss Terry” around the Alabama program, has been married to Nick since 1971. You figure that over the years she has picked up quite a bit of knowledge about football. That most certainly is the case. In fact, she played a role in helping decide Alabama’s quarterback for the season.

Back in August, Nick Saban was not sure who his starting quarterback would be for the year. It was during fall scrimmages that he evaluated his players and got an earful from his wife Miss Terry about who should play QB.

“I’m sure when I go home, I’m going to get a real earful about the quarterbacks and who played best and who she likes the best and all that,” Saban said after a scrimmage in mid-November.

Sure enough, Miss Terry decided that she liked Jake Coker the most as Bama’s QB.

“I get Miss Terry’s opinion on a lot of things,” he said. “I certainly respect her opinion in every regard. I don’t think she’d want me to tell you what she thinks.

“I know she really likes Jake Coker,” Saban said on a conference call.

Miss Terry certainly knows her stuff. Coker has emerged for Alabama this season and become a very steady player. He has thrown for 2,775 yards, 19 touchdowns and 8 interceptions while also running for a couple of scores. Cooper Bateman has thrown for 291 yards and a score this season in limited duty.

Bottom line: Nick Saban’s wife, Miss Terry, she’s a football genius. Take a look at what former Alabama QB Greg McElroy even had to say about her.
