Quarterback Nico Iamaleava is reportedly receiving interest from three schools after leaving Tennessee and entering the transfer portal.
UCLA, North Carolina, and Tulane have some level of interest in Iamaleava, according to Pete Nakos of On3. UCLA is viewed as a top contender, while Tulane’s interest is real.
North Carolina’s interest is intriguing, but less clear. Bill Belichick’s team is in the market for a quarterback, but it is unclear if they would be willing to meet Iamaleava’s reported $4 million NIL asking price.

Iamaleava is entering the transfer portal after negotiations with Tennessee over a new NIL deal broke down. The public nature of the Tennessee situation, combined with the timing, led some to suggest that Iamaleava’s market might be rather limited.
There does appear to be a degree of truth to that speculation. Most legitimate championship contenders have settled quarterback situations. Tennessee made the College Football Playoff with Iamaleava at quarterback in 2024, but none of the three teams linked to the quarterback came close to making the field. Unless something changes, Iamaleava is going to have to move to a team that doesn’t quite have as much talent as the Vols do.
North Carolina might be the most intriguing landing spot of those listed. Belichick has suggested that he wants the Tar Heels to essentially be an NFL program, and spending big on a quarterback would certainly fit with that.
