Report: ‘No truth’ to rumors Josh Jackson has been suspended indefinitely

Josh Jackson appears to be having some sort of issue with his playing status at Virginia Tech, but he may not be in danger of missing the entire upcoming season as was previously rumored.

According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, any reports that have been swirling this week about an indefinite suspension for Jackson are inaccurate.

Jackson’s father, Fred Jackson, told Mike Barber of The Richmond Times-Dispatch that his son is still a member of the football team at Virginia Tech but more will be known about his status in the coming days. Barber later reported that the Hokies are optimistic Jackson will be able to play this season.

All signs point to Jackson dealing with some sort of academic ineligibility issue that is being reviewed by the NCAA. If he violated team rules in some way, the Hokies probably already would have made an announcement.

Jackson completed over 60 percent of his passes last season and threw for 19 touchdowns compared to eight interceptions. He was poised for a breakout year in 2018, but obviously that is now in question. Whatever problems he is having are just the latest in a string of bad luck the Hokies have already had this offseason.
