OJ Simpson’s stolen Heisman Trophy found 20 years later
The Heisman Trophy that Hall of Fame running back OJ Simpson won at USC in 1968 was stolen from a USC display case back in July 1994. It only took 20 years for police to get it back.
Detectives from the LAPD’s art detail announced Tuesday that the trophy was recovered last month, according to the Los Angeles Times. Detectives had previously gone to court seeking a search warrant for a person they believed was connected to the theft. The trophy was found on Dec. 16, though few details have been released due to the nature of the ongoing investigation.
Both the trophy and Simpson’s USC jersey were stolen from the case on campus more than 20 years ago. Police believed two individuals were responsible for the theft at the time it occurred. Simpson also has his own personal Heisman Trophy, as both the player and school receive one.
We know at least one Buffalo Bills fan who is probably ecstatic that the trophy has been returned to its rightful home.
