PK Sam claims Nick Saban cut him for flying home to hug father before he died
Nick Saban is well known for being tough on his players, but one former NFL wide receiver who played for him claims the coaching style resulted in a lack of basic human decency when Saban was in charge of the Miami Dolphins.
P.K. Sam, a former Florida State star who bounced around the NFL for a few years before playing in the CFL, claimed on Wednesday that Saban released him because Sam flew home to be with his father, who was terminally ill.
Thank you nick saban @AlabamaFTBL. 10 yrs ago today you cut me from the @MiamiDolphins bc I flew home to hug my dad before he died. CLASSY!

While we hope there is a lot more to the story than that, this isn’t the first we have heard about Saban having been heartless when it came to cutting players. NFL reporter Alex Marvez recently said that a player once found out from the media that he was being released by the Dolphins — during a team charity event no less.
Nick Saban cut guy participating in @MiamiDolphins charity event (Will Poole).Nobody from front office had told him.I broke news to him. Ugh https://t.co/26Lja9zRmA

These are just a few of the reasons we never put much stock into juicy rumors like this one. Saban’s style is much more suited for college athletes, and there are more than a few NFL players who did not like playing for him. But if he truly cut Sam for going home to visit his dying father, that’s just plain wrong.
