Ray Lewis has largely been out of the public spotlight since he left ESPN and had a brief tenure with FOX Sports 1 several years ago, but the Hall of Fame linebacker has reportedly emerged as a candidate for a college head coach job.

Ray Lewis is in consideration to be the next head football coach at Florida Atlantic University, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

FAU is searching for a new head coach after firing Tom Herman on Tuesday. Herman had gone 6-16 in two seasons and had three years left on his contract.

Lewis is from Florida and played in college at the University of Miami. He has no prior coaching experience. Lewis retired in 2012 after 17 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and joined ESPN as an analyst.

The 49-year-old Lewis worked for ESPN from 2013-2016. He then signed with FOX Sports 1 in 2017 but was let go a short time later.

Lewis had one of the best careers for a linebacker in NFL history. He won two Super Bowls with the Ravens and was named to the Pro Bowl 13 times. Lewis was also a seven-time First-team All-Pro and two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He has more solo tackles than any player in NFL history with 1,568.
