The Ohio State Buckeyes certainly are not backing down from the importance of their annual rivalry game against the Michigan Wolverines.
Coach Ryan Day said Saturday that the Buckeyes are rescheduling Senior Day for Week 1. Senior Day festivities are traditionally held prior to the team’s final home game, but Day wants no additional distractions around that game this year since it is against the Wolverines.
“When we look at all the things that go on that weekend, the way things have changed, there are things that we thought about,” Day said. “The first thing was, we want to keep much of the focus on the game, and the more distractions we have — there’s already enough distractions during that week. This was just one more thing that we felt like we could move.”

Day added that there were other reasons for the change, but the Michigan game seems to be the emphasis. It is a stark change from tradition, but Buckeyes fans probably won’t complain too much about anything that increases their chances of winning the Michigan game.
Interestingly, Ohio State seems to be emphasizing the rivalry just as Michigan is doing the opposite. Bryce Underwood even used the “just another game” line about the matchup recently. Very few Michigan fans would agree with that, but again, if the strategy helps the Wolverines win, they can definitely live with it.
