Report: Texas Tech has interest in Mike Leach reunion

Mike Leach

Texas Tech is in the market for a new head football coach, and some with the school have interest in a reunion with Mike Leach. Furthermore, Leach is said to have interest in a return.

Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported on Sunday about the status of the school’s search for a new head coach. In his article, he said that Leach has interest in the job and that there are major donors interested in bringing back Leach.

Williams still cautioned that there are others with Texas Tech who would not want Leach back due to his controversial past.

Leach was fired by Texas Tech in 2009 over a controversy involving the son of former ESPN analyst Craig James. He later sued the school for wrongful termination.

Leach went 84-43 over 10 seasons at Texas Tech. He has gone 48-40 in seven seasons at Washington State.

In addition to Leach, Williams says Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt and Utah State coach Matt Wells will be candidates for the job. He mentions Dana Holgorsen, Brent Venables and Mike Norvell as other possibilities. Some of these scenarios seem extremely unlikely, such as Leach, Holgorsen or Norvell coming to Texas Tech.
