Tom Herman has strange quote after loss to Maryland
Texas fans will be looking for much better results from Tom Herman in his second season with the Longhorns, and the coach made it clear he is well aware of that after 2018 got off to a disappointing start.
After capping off last year’s 7-6 season with a win in the Texas bowl, Herman’s No. 23-ranked longhorns lost to Maryland by a score of 34-29 on Saturday. Herman was quick to tell reporters this year’s team will not be like last year’s.
Texas coach Tom Herman: “A lot of people are going to want to say this feels a lot like last year. It doesn’t to me.” He believes Horns are better now than at any point in 2017.

That seems like a strange thing to say one game into the season, and some will interpret it as Herman already being nervous. The expectation was obviously that he will return the Texas program to prominence after he was hired, and that can take several years. Still, a loss to Maryland is going to bring about lots of grumbling from Longhorns fans.
