Top recruit Korey Foreman shares why he decommitted from Clemson

One of the top recruits for the 2021 college football class has decommitted from Clemson and explained why.

Korey Foreman, who is a 6-foot-5, 275-pound defensive end for Corona Centennial High School in California, broke his commitment to the Tigers.

Foreman told TigerNet.com that he decommitted because he wanted to take official visits elsewhere. An official visit is one that is paid for by a school. Athletes get up to five official visits.

Clemson has a policy that committed players cannot go on official visits elsewhere and will lose their spot if they do so. Even for a top recruit like Foreman, Dabo Swinney stood by his policy.

The reason for the policy has to do with roster management. If a player is not fully committed to them, Clemson would rather replace him with someone who is, that way they know they know they can count on having a good player at that position. The risk from a team’s side is that if they wait too long, the top players are committed elsewhere, and they don’t want to be left without talented players.

Clemson’s policy is an ideal way to conduct business, but it’s not feasible for other programs that don’t tend to have their pick of the top players. As for Foreman, you can question just how secure his commitment to Clemson was if he still wanted to take visits elsewhere.

Foreman is also considering Alabama, LSU, Oregon and Arizona State.
