USC will be without true freshman Kedon Slovis when they visit the Washington Huskies on Saturday, and the Trojans are unsure when they will get the quarterback back.
Slovis exited the team’s win over Utah last week in the first quarter after being hit in the head. He has been in concussion protocol since and has been ruled out for the team’s next game.
Head coach Clay Helton said on Thursday that he’s not sure when Slovis will return because it’s hard to predict when someone will recover from a concussion, but they’re hoping it will be before their October 12 game against Notre Dame.

I asked Helton if Slovis would likely return after the bye: “I would hope,” he said. "But any time you’re going through concussion protocol, everybody is different."

The Trojans are now down to their No. 3 quarterback — Matt Fink — but that may not be such a bad thing. Fink was the backup to JT Daniels last year and was only surpassed by Slovis this year. Considering how good Slovis looked, being behind him does not mean Fink is bad. Fink played actually great against Utah, throwing for 351 yards and three touchdowns.
The issue for USC is behind Fink will be Brandon Perdue, a converted safety. They’ll be in real trouble if Fink gets hurt.
