Virginia Tech Tries Out Female Kicker Lauren Luttrell
Virginia Tech had a female kicker try out for their team on Monday and she left a positive impression. Lauren Luttrell, who kicked for Spotsylvania High in Virginia last year, decided to see if she could walk-on to Virginia Tech as a kicker. The Washington Post says she did so well that coach Frank Beamer wants another look at her.
“Right now it’s kind of tough to come out there and get a lot of attention. Things are happening so fast right now,” Beamer said. “But I was impressed with her and we’ll bring her back out there in the spring.”
Luttrell played volleyball and traveling soccer in high school and only began kicking a year ago. She tried out for her high school’s team at the insistence of the assistant coach and did well.
As you could imagine, she’s believed to be the first female to try out for Virginia Tech’s football team. If she does make the team, perhaps she could lean on Kathy Ireland for advice on adjusting to life playing with the men.
