Arena football player Kevin Ellison says ‘God told him’ to set fire to apartment
Kevin Ellison must have been smoking some funky weed.
After jumping from his third-story Spokane, Wash., suburb apartment when it became engulfed in flames early Thursday, the Spokane Shock linebacker/defensive back reportedly told fire officials that he started the blaze with a marijuana blunt “because God had told him” to do so.
Ellison originally told firefighters that he was smoking on his bed when the fire broke out. Evidence at the scene led investigators to believe the blaze was not accidental.
Ellison was being treated for smoke inhalation when he was arrested. He faces a federal arson charge and has been suspended by the Arena Football League.
The former USC star started nine games for the Chargers in 2009 but was released by the team in 2010 after he was arrested for reportedly having 100 Vicodin tablets in his car without a prescription. No word if he was following the orders of any divine beings for that drug-related incident.
