Report: Coldplay to headline Super Bowl 50 halftime show
Coldplay is the choice to headline the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, according to reports.
The Wall Street Journal’s Hannah Karp reported on Thursday that the British rock group will perform at the show. The expectation is that the band, whose new album comes out on December 4, will announce a North American tour shortly after.
E! News cited a source that said that other acts would be featured as well, with the show intended to highlight the past, present, and future of music. Coldplay were reportedly in the running to play last year’s Super Bowl before Katy Perry was ultimately selected.
It’s an unsurprising choice from the NFL as they look to cater to the massive audience that the Super Bowl will inevitably draw. Coldplay probably won’t excite many viewers, but they’re not going to bring any major controversies upon the league or its television partners either.
