Report: 49ers have had no discussions about Colin Kaepernick starting

Colin Kaepernick

With Blaine Gabbert having struggled through the first three games of the regular season, many wonder if it is only a matter of time before Colin Kaepernick takes his job. The San Francisco 49ers have yet to consider making that change, according to a report.

ESPN’s Jim Trotter was told by several 49ers players that there have been no discussions about handing the reins to Kaepernick.

Gabbert has a passer rating of just 68.6 through the first three weeks of the season, but Chip Kelly recently said he still has full confidence in him. However, it should be noted that Kelly also continues to say that Kaepernick’s health and conditioning are the primary reasons he has not yet been given a shot at the starting job.

Kaepernick had three surgeries during the offseason and was unable to spend much time in the weight room, but he recently admitted his new diet may have something to do with why he has lost weight. If Kaepernick can get himself into shape and Gabbert continues to play poorly, things in San Francisco could change in a hurry.
