Aaron Rodgers got his Pittsburgh Steelers career off to a dream start on Sunday, and the former NFL MVP delivered an emotional message after the game.

The Steelers beat the New York Jets 34-32 in a thrilling back-and-forth game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Rodgers played extremely well against his former team, completing 22/30 passes for 244 yards, 4 touchdowns and no interceptions.

Following the game, Rodgers was asked what it felt like to pick up a huge win in his first game with the Steelers.

“I love these guys. I love the organization. I love them taking a chance on bringing me in and believing in me and giving me the opportunity to be out here with my guys,” Rodgers said. “There’s no greater feeling than being on the field and being able to compete. That’s what I was thinking about all those days in the offseason, was opportunities like this. Now, I didn’t think it’d be against my former team, but I’m really proud of our guys making clutch plays down the stretch.”

Rodgers was asked again during his postgame press conference how it felt to beat the Jets.

“I was happy to beat everyone associated with the Jets,” he said.

The Steelers got the ball trailing 32-31 with 3:13 remaining in the fourth quarter, and Rodgers put together what wound up being a game-winning field goal drive. The Jets got the ball back with more than a minute left, but Pittsburgh’s defense came up with a big stand.

It is hardly a secret that Rodgers did not enjoy his two seasons with the Jets. He openly blasted the team over the way his release was handled, so it had to have felt great for him to lead the Steelers to a huge win in what will be his biggest revenge game of the year.
