Adrian Peterson: ‘It would be nice’ to play for Cowboys

Adrian Peterson

Adrian Peterson admitted on Tuesday night what is no longer a secret — he wants to play for the Dallas Cowboys.

Peterson was in attendance for Game 5 of the Western Conference playoff series between the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets, and Mike Leslie of WFAA Sports asked him about the rumored possibility that he could be traded to the Cowboys.

“It would be nice,” Peterson said. “I’ve got family here, my dad’s here. But I’m under contract, so we’ll see.”

In a separate chat with Guy Rawlings of KTVT-TV, Peterson said it is “out of my hands” when asked if he wants to play in Dallas.

While nothing the Vikings running back said comes as a surprise, it is the closest Peterson has come to admitting publicly that he wants out of Minnesota. Peterson’s agent has been very open about his client’s wishes and even created a buzz by posting this photo on social media, but Peterson has been relatively quiet.

The latest report we heard about the Cowboys and Peterson is that Jerry Jones’ team is no longer in the running. Of course, that could be nothing more than a negotiating tactic, just as the Vikings could be trying to strengthen their position by insisting they are keeping Peterson.

If Peterson really puts up a fuss, the Vikings could decide to trade him. The problem is they are reportedly looking for a ton of value in return, and few teams are willing to pay the asking price for a 30-year-old running back who counts nearly $13 million against the salary cap next season. We all know Peterson has a dream scenario in mind, but sometimes it’s just not that simple.
