AJ Green suffers setback with ankle injury, out indefinitely

AJ Green

AJ Green was working towards potentially making his season debut this weekend, but that will not be happening.

Green experienced swelling in his ankle after doing drills and work with the team this week, which he considered a setback. The veteran wide receiver believed that was a sign of his ankle telling him he had to shut it down to rest and heal because it’s not ready to compete at that level.

“Right now, my ankle is saying it’s too much,” Green said, via ESPN’s Ben Baby. “That’s when you gotta back off.”

Green is out indefinitely, according to ESPN.

Green has not played since injuring his ankle during the Cincinnati Bengals’ first practice of the preseason. The team has gone 0-8 without him and made a quarterback switch from Andy Dalton to Ryan Finley.

Green is set to be a free agent after the season and likely does not want to risk further injury amid a lost season in Cincinnati. He has previously said he wants to sign a long-term deal with the team.
