Aldon Smith has been in and out of jail several times in the last two months, and his latest arrest reportedly came on Saturday when the former Oakland Raiders star violated a bail condition.
According to TMZ, a judge ordered Smith to wear an electronic monitoring device after a court appearance on Thursday that stemmed from him violating a protective order in his domestic violence case. Smith’s struggles with alcohol abuse have been well documented, and the device serves as a GPS while also measuring the alcohol level in Smith’s sweat. San Francisco Sheriff’s Department officials told TMZ Smith was arrested for violating a condition of his electric monitoring.
Smith was arrested last month when his fiancee, Shawna McKnight told police he bit her wrists before climbing out a window and fleeing in his vehicle. McKnight said Smith had been drinking heavily and that he called her parents to take him to rehab. A recent report indicated that Smith has a serious problem with alcohol abuse and those close to him are concerned.

In a statement to TMZ, McKnight said the couple has split.
“Unfortunately through these circumstances Aldon and I are no longer together,” McKnight wrote. “Although it’s with a heavy heart I truly wish him the best and pray he gets the help he needs. I will always have love for him but at this point I’m simply the victim in this ongoing case.”
Smith missed the entire 2016 and 2017 seasons while serving a suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy and a number of other things. He was hoping to be reinstated last year, but he was investigated for a separate domestic violence the month before and then involved in a bizarre incident in which his girlfriend collided with a police cruiser while driving Smith’s car. Smith denied reports that he had any involvement with the crash, but he revealed some information in an incredibly bizarre interview with reporters while leaving the police station.
The Raiders announced after Smith’s latest domestic violence incident that they have released him, and it seems unlikely that the 28-year-old will ever play in the NFL again.
